: Willow,
: What type of surgery are you having? I had the RK (Radial Keratotamy ) surgery four years ago to correct my nearsightedness, and it's wonderful to not have to wear glasses or contacts! My vision without correction was twice the legal blind limit here in the states (20/400) Couldn't even read my clock 5 inches from my face! Now I see 20/25 from one eye, and 20/30 from the other. I hope your surgery goes well, and will be thinking about you.

Lyn, I'm having LASIK - in the UK they don't do PRK beyond a distortion of 4 or 5. I'm over -10 in my right eye and about -8.5 in the left, so that puts me way over. LASIK's newer so they're more uncertain about side effects, but apparently there's less risk of 'em especially at high prescriptions. It's also VERY expensive and since sight correction is considered "cosmetic" I can't get it on my insurance. Which makes me really mad cos you can get breast ops on the NHS over here if you complain that your breast size is making your life a misery. Still, don't get me started.

I'm kind of nervous about the whole thing, specially since getting the consent forms which tell you all the horrible things which could, potentially, happen (loss of corneal flap.... penetration of the eye by the laser - eeewww) but in general I'm really excited.

Anyway, thanks for the info & support. Talk to you all in late July / August!

Willow
